Wanderlust 108

Oh man!  Did I ever do something amazing with 4 of my favourite people….WANDERLUST 108.  Haven’t heard of it?  I’m not surprised. Almost everyone I mention it to has no idea what I’m speaking of, and the few that do know WENT!!

So what exactly is Wanderlust 108?  Well, they call it a “mindful triathlon” that includes a 5km run/walk, 90 minute yoga class & a 30 minute guided meditation.  It was held at the CNE with FREE parking!!  Our tickets were around $50 each.

When my girlfriends and I decided we were going to attend, our immediate thought was “lets get matching everything!”  So we collaborated with Julie over at Asskicker Ink to come up with them most adorable and talked about tank tops, where we proclaimed loud and proud that we were NIRVANA AF!!

Once our outfits were secured, we were off to get our zen on!

We arrived at the fairground at 7:30am after maneuvering quite expertly through the Toronto traffic (well….Vickie and Suzie did).  After parking, we checked in where we were gifted a full bottle of Lavender or Peppermint as well as a mat sticker with an inspirational word on it.  We checked our bags, then went to the main practice area to find the perfect spot to place our mats.  We hung out for a few minutes, filled up our water bottles, and then were introduced to our MC for the day, MATT.  Hello, funny, witty and clever Matt!  He directed us to start our line up under the EPIC Wanderlust wooden banner to begin our 5km walk, dance and jaunt.  We took off dancing, we jaunted for the middle portion, then we walked and chatted for the final portion.  It was amazing.  The grounds of the CNE are stunning with statues, flowers and wildlife all around you, and a beautiful view of gorgeous Lake Ontario!!  It was breathtaking and very emotionally fulfilling.

Next was the yoga portion.  We actually thought it was going to be a 30  minute basic yoga class….UM….NO.  90 minutes of a sweat inducing, endorphin releasing and mind blowing beautiful yoga.  We saluted the sun, we explored chair, we visited pigeon then we took a beautiful guided savasana.  It was challenging and very fulfilling, with many opportunities for you to press towards your edge by very expertly given options for those able to perform handstand, crow and a few other advanced asanas to attempt them, and lets face it, us non-experts also attempted!  And damn that was THE BEST time giggling and applauding (hellllloooo Vickie DID CROW!!).

Immediately after savasana, we all sat quietly together while we were guided so beautifully and gently through a 3o minute meditation practice.  Now, I’ll not lie, A LOT of people rolled their mats up and left at this time, which just amazed me.  Meditation is something that so many of us struggle with, and the vibe that was buzzing around the park at this time was palpable.  Kindness, happiness, joy and friendliness was everywhere.  In fact, MANY times throughout the day we hugged and smiled at strangers.

Please take a moment and look closely at our faces….pure happiness, pure bliss.

So with all of that and the calming voice of our fabulous guide, meditation was down right dreamy, bringing tears to the majority of us.  At one point, we were asked to look around us, and make eye contact with someone.  Then smile at each other.  SHIT!  Have you ever done that??  Its crazy how emotional it is.  To look at someone you don’t know, smile at them, and then have them smile back????  It’s confidence building, growing trust in each other and it was a huge high for me.  I actually think of it right now and get goosebumps.  It was magical and very VERY unifying.  I’m sad those that left early missed out.  It was the highlight of the day for all us.

Its at this point that you are set free to either leave or take part in one of the many free introductory lessons offered.  There was Acro Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Hoola Hooping and Tarrot Card reading.  There was also the option of grabbing a (very small) budda bowl.  

OK, I have a few tips for you

BRING CASH– although debit and credit are accepted at some of the amazing stalls there, 3 of us had difficulty getting our cards to read, and another stall charged in US funds to use a card.  Also, the food vendor (only 1) accepted credit or cash only.

RESERVE A SPOT IN THE INTRODUCTORY LESSONS-OK, we didn’t read very much before heading down, and assumed we’d be able to get into try everything.  FOOLISH GIRLS!!  There were really no spots available for aerial yoga or acro yoga.  There were however spots for tarro card readings and hoola hooping:)

PACK A LUNCH-This is 100% allowed.  Next year when we go, we will pack a mini cooler and have a picnic in the beauty of the park, enjoy the sounds and vibes around us, soaking it all in!

AHHHH  Wanderlust 108….you were amazing.  You simply must experience this at least once.

    This sounds absolutely wonderful and something I would totally be in to. I am for sure going to sign up next year. I love exercise, I love yoga even more, and meditation…well I am not well practiced, but would love to be, it’s great for the soul, we all need that. Thanks for sharing Kim! Xo
